We had a lazy Sunday and it was great!  We slept in and when we finally got up we lingered over coffee and iced tea.  David walked to the patisserie and bought a baguette and two almond pastries (pain au amande) for breakfast.  He said this particular pastry is flaky on top with a scattering of almonds, but the body is dense, much like the macaroon he ate from the market, but with a rich buttery taste.  He said it was easily worth an hour on the elliptical trainer.  I didn't feel like having an almond pastry so I had toasted baguette with butter and jam.

We went out for a walk and walked through town and up to the Big Super U.  That took us about 20 minutes one way all uphill.  This wasn't so bad as we knew it would be downhill all the way back.  We weren't planning to shop, we just wanted to see how long it would take us to walk there for future planning purposes.

Coming home we took a different route and it was much more pleasant than walking through town; we took a different spoke on the wheel off the roundabout.  It was a wider street lined with beautiful trees!  A very nice residential area with beautiful homes and gardens.  We were so happy to discover a different route with very little traffic and wide sidewalks.

We noticed a big building that said "Gymnase Municipal."  It was closed so we were not able to check it out.   We hope it's a place where we can work out (or at least David is hoping that) but we don't know at this time.  We will return later in the week to see what kind of gym it is.

After leaving the Gymnase, on the southern edge of Saint Aignan, we stopped at the Hotel De Ville.  We can only assume that at one time it was, indeed a nice hotel.  Since it was not open, we peered inside.  It appears to be a place that now holds conferences, or a conference center.  It is nicely maintained with a handsome exterior and a very pretty yard with beautiful flowers.  We stopped long enough to take a couple of pictures before heading back into the village.

There is a bar or pub in town that has a very nice outdoor patio and it is very popular.  I'm sorry I didn't write down the name of it but I will report it later.  We decided to go there to hang out in the sun and have a beer.  You know how a cold beer sounds really good when it's hot and sunny???  It is a popular place and probably 6 or 7 tables were occupied.  We went inside to order and talked to the bartender about what kind of beer we wanted.  He spoke no English but it wasn't a problem.  David told him in French that we wanted a light beer and he gave us a sample of one that was delicious.  It was a blond beer from Alsace, France, and we both liked it very much. He motioned for us to go sit at a table and he would bring our beers to us.  We were enjoying our beer when we looked up and saw the couple who own the wine cave we like to go to, Aux Cepages.  They saw us and came right over to greet us with a handshake.  It is soooooo nice to feel like we are getting acquainted with local people!

The first beer was so good we decided to have a second one!  David went inside to order and found out they had run out of the beer we liked.  But what the heck?  We tried a different beer and it was cold and good too!!!

After an hour or so we wandered home and had a very simple dinner of doctored-up canned beans and baguette with butter and cheese.  For dessert we finished up the strawberries we bought at the market on Saturday. David nicely prepared the strawberries!

We settled in to watch some TV and read.  David has discovered a Japanese channel, NHK, which is in English.  We have watched it a lot because it is very interesting -- and because we plan to go to Japan as that is where David spent the first few years of his life.  The shows range from travel journals to cooking shows, etc.  We love that we can relax with TV at the end of the day!!!
