Monday. Today we decided to walk to the big Super U and do some serious grocery shopping.
On the way we saw this cool postal delivery truck. Doesn't it look a little bit like Fred Flintstone's car?
Instead of walking through town, we walked up the nice tree-lined boulevard (picture in yesterday's post). Next time I'll make note of the name of the street. We stopped at the gymnase but it was still not open. I wonder if it's a gym for training athletes like gymnasts? I saw schedules that mentioned archery and hand ball. We will continue to check on it until we find out.
We spent a long, long time at the Super U because there was so much to look at and occasionally (!) we had to look up words in the French/English dictionary our teacher and friend, Geena gave us. Thanks again Geena!
It truly is a small Wal-Mart type store. The shopping carts are kept chained up in a line. In order to get one free, you must first insert a one-Euro coin to release its chain. Then, when you return your cart and re-insert the chain, it pushes your coin back out. I guess this keeps people from pushing carts off of store property like they do so often in the United States. I know the Aldi stores do this in the U.S. The selection was outstanding. We bought some basic stuff like canned goods and pasta sauce and we bought more of the necessities like chocolate cookies and wine. The wine selection was massive. It was two solid rows, each 45-50 feet long and seven feet high. The champagne was on another row. We even bought some soft bread rolls for sandwiches. Sandwiches are one of the best things I cook -- sandwiches and salads! Just ask my friend, Steve Salata.
That was our big outing for the day. We read and watched TV in the afternoon and I watched an episode of "House of Cards" on Netflix. I love that series!
We had a glass of wine or two before dinner and then I made delicious sandwiches -- David's was just cheese and mine was cheese and salami. We had our Pringles with them and finished up with some grapes. Yep, just another one of my gourmet meals!!!
